The Happiness Calendar

Last updated: August 2026

The Happiness Calendar is about less stuff and more moments. We try to take the same approach to your data: collect what we need to make the experience work, and no more.

Your family's calendar, photos and memories are private.

Who we are

The Happiness Calendar is currently operated by Michael Emery in Norway.

For privacy questions or requests, contact: hello@thehappinesscalendar.com

Who the service is for

The account is intended for a parent or guardian aged 18 or over.

Children do not create accounts.

We ask the parent for children's ages so we can choose activities that better suit the family. We do not ask for children's names, email addresses or other contact details.

Parents can choose to add photographs and short written memories. These may naturally contain information about children or other family members.

What we collect

When you use The Happiness Calendar, we may store:

  • your email address and account identifier;
  • your family nickname;
  • the number and ages of children in your family;
  • your country;
  • your adventurousness preference;
  • the challenges assigned to your family;
  • information about doors and challenges you open, accept, save for another day or complete;
  • short memories you choose to write;
  • photographs you choose to upload;
  • basic timestamps and technical information needed to operate and secure the service;
  • limited product-usage events that help us understand whether the beta is working.

Why we use it

We use this information to:

  • create and operate your family's calendar;
  • personalise challenges for your family;
  • remember your progress;
  • let you save adventures for another day;
  • store optional photos and memories;
  • create your private Our December collection;
  • operate and secure your account;
  • understand, in a limited way, how the product is being used so we can improve it.

Information needed to provide The Happiness Calendar is generally processed because it is necessary to provide the service you have asked for.

For limited product analytics used to understand and improve the beta, we rely on our legitimate interest in improving the service, while deliberately limiting the information collected.

Photos and memories

Adding a photo or memory is optional.

Your photos are stored privately and are only made available through authenticated access to your family's account.

We do not:

  • make your photos or memories public;
  • sell them;
  • use them for advertising;
  • analyse them for product analytics;
  • use facial recognition on them;
  • use them to train AI models;
  • build advertising profiles from them.

If you upload a photograph containing another person, please make sure you are comfortable storing it and consider that person's privacy — particularly when children are pictured.

Product analytics

During the beta, we collect a small amount of first-party product analytics.

For example, we may record that a door was opened, a challenge was accepted, completed or saved for another day, a photo or memory was added, or Our December was viewed.

These events contain limited structured information such as a pseudonymous family reference, challenge ID or Advent day where relevant, and a timestamp.

Our product analytics do not contain your email address, family nickname, children's ages, memory text, photographs, photo paths, precise location or advertising/device identifiers.

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, session recording or third-party behavioural analytics.

Cookies and browser storage

The Happiness Calendar does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies.

The application uses browser storage where it is necessary for features such as keeping you securely signed in.

We do not use this necessary storage to advertise to you or track you across other websites.

Who helps us run the service

We use service providers to operate The Happiness Calendar, including Lovable for the application and hosting environment and Supabase for services including authentication, database and private file storage.

Our current Supabase project and storage are hosted in the EU (Ireland).

These providers may process limited technical information as part of operating, securing and maintaining their services.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

How long we keep your information

Your family information and memories are kept while your account exists so that you can continue to return to your calendar and Our December.

You can remove individual photographs and edit memories within the service.

You can also delete your account from Settings.

When you delete your account, your family profile, calendar records, memories, first-party product analytics and private photographs are removed from the active service, together with your authentication account.

Limited information may remain temporarily in secure infrastructure backups or provider logs until those records are automatically overwritten or expire.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, data-protection law gives you rights including the right to:

  • ask what personal information we hold about you;
  • correct inaccurate information;
  • ask for information to be deleted;
  • restrict certain processing;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • complain about how your personal information is handled.

To exercise your rights, contact hello@thehappinesscalendar.com.

You also have the right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures intended to protect family information.

Private photographs are stored in private storage with family-specific access controls. They are not intentionally exposed through permanent public URLs.

No online service can guarantee absolute security, but privacy and security are part of how The Happiness Calendar is designed.

Changes

The Happiness Calendar is currently an early product and will evolve.

If we make meaningful changes to how we use personal information, we will update this policy and provide appropriate notice where required.
